Cucumber eggs?
-
Friday, March 18, 2011 8:18 PM
Has anyone bred cucumbers in captivity? I did a search for cucumber and Holothuria but didn't find any threads. I always find eggs like these in the cucumber tank at work that I take care of. Cucumber-Eggs by Felicia McCaulley, on Flickr If things are spawning in tanks at work that I am the sole caretaker of, does that count towards my points? http://eprints.cmfri.org.in/2838/1/Article_17.pdf

I've never actually seen it happen, but they appear overnight. They are like a long strand stuck to the walls of the tank. There are always new ones in there. There are pink, black and tiger cucumbers in this tank as well as Pentacta anceps sea-apple type cucumbers. I have no idea which ones are spawning.

I totally overlooked the Blue Spot Sea Hares in this tank. I recently discovered that it is the sea hares, Bursatella leachii, that are spawning these eggs. I found out when we received a shipment, and there was an egg mass in the sealed bag with a sea hare. I keep collecting the egg masses and hatching them, then I don't know what to do with the larvae. I have what seems like a never ending supply of sea hare egg masses, but that doesn't give me the excuse to take my good old time with them. Guess I gotta research! Anyone raised blue spot sea hares before?

My assumption would be lots of good phyto plankton for the larvae.
