Bella Gobies (valenciennea bella) - Tuesday, May 12, 2020 10:43 AM

My first spawn was 5/5.  They hatched 5/10.

They are about 2 mm so smaller than some of the smaller gobies.  But it follows the rule  the smaller larva equals more larva.  Literature I've read small neon gobies have 50 to 250 per hatch.  This was thousands upon thousands.  I didn't have any real copepod storage so I set up different cups with small numbers to see what food source could keep them alive until today.  My order from Reed arrives today.

The fish in the starvation cup still have a few alive but most are dead.

Plain nano and artificial food seems to have the most.  The tisbe cups most of them are being eaten by the tisbes.  bbs is too big.
i didn't have any rots at the time.

Pictures in a bit.

So the rots and Apop pods arrived from Reed today.  I decided to use the Apop for my ruby reds.  I put a few in with some bella larva in a mixed with rots.

For most of the 50 larva left I am gong to try mostly rots.  As they age I'll throw in some tisbe. Also that culture has bbs because I couldn't get them separated form the larva in the cups of trials that I tried.

Mom and Dad are busily trying to connect a cave across the whole bottom of my tank and using sponges, snails anything not tied down to do it.  So hopefully they are still happy and will send me more babies in 2 weeks or so.  Though it will take a while to build up my copepod stash so if the rots don't work that batch will also suffer.

The first batch didn't make it but had one last until 10 dph.

They spawn I believe 5/30 and tonight they hatched. 6-3.

My rotifers have crashed.  I have some pods arriving tomorrow.  I'm going to experiment with different set ups but without rots I don't think I"ll get very far.

Well day 2 and some in the experiments are still alive.
Most the ones in my 'starvation' cup have died.

Mom and dad are busy cleaning the cave and expanding.
