I have several that i am raising, but I think they should be larger by now. They range between 1" and 1 1/2". Am I just being impatient?

Different species grow at different rates but at five months 1-1.5 inches sounds right to me.

A. percula and Darwins tend to grow a bit slower than A. ocellaris, you're doing well to have them to 1.5" in 5 months.

Don't let fear and common sense stop you! =]

Very funny eastereggs. But only a handful are 1 1/2", most are about 1". I want to wait till I can get a few more before I start selling to the lfs. Is there anything I can do to make sure they are growing as fast as they can? I do feed them a lot.

Don't know about your fish store but one that said he would buy mine would only pay me a $1.00 to a $1.50 I said no thanks and sold half of them on my local forum. Still have the other half of the batch because they weren't big enough to put up for sale yet.

I gave up my dream about having a profitable fish breeding hobby months ago. But like every enjoyable hobby, plan to continue paying money .

They planning on retailing them at $3.00 to $4.50? Because that's typical shop markups...

I don't know about shops by you but typical markup is far more than double on livestock from my experience. Shops pay for the fish they sell, as well as all the fish that don't live, and then freight is factored in for the majority of orders. Designer clowns obviously command higher price at cost and therefore a proportionately smaller markup, but these fish typically come from within the States such as ORA, Proaquatix, Sustainable etc. Many times these orders experience significantly lesser losses due to fish health and handling so smaller markup percentage is feasible but as for standard wild type ocellaris, the $2 range at wholsale unfartunately sounds about right to me. One could argue that their captive bred fish are healthier and hardier than the respective imported fish but all the store owner sees is Nemo...and Nemo shouldn't cost him more than $2-3. Different story for designers and some other commercially produced species, but again, for the majority of common wild-type fish, most people don't realize just how dramatic the markup typically is.

The big boys have been having a price war, and now the shops won't pay more than the bottom anymore for common ocellaris, no matter how specatcular they are. Nobody wins in the race to the bottom. The market is screwed. JMHO.
