Re: Breeding Journal, Species:Corythoichthys haematopterus (Western Pacific) or intestinalis (Indonesian)

I've seen his floor resting behavior off and on for the last couple of days. I am begining to think there is a difference between the laying down completely, head and tail to the floor, and this resting posture with head and sometimes tail raised up. Head down is bad, indicating he is not well, and death will follow, and head up, just adult posturing, just him growing up. That's what I'm hoping for, anyway. Perhaps just wishful thinking.

That last picture sure does look like normal adult posturing. Good work, Kathy, and good luck with him!

i remember last week when his head was white and fuzzy. Now there are definite dragon scribbles! He looks like a snake with fins.

Sadly, Crooktail did not make it. RIP, Crooktail. 47 days old, or 6.5 weeks. I'll put up some pictures later today. Bummer. :-(

My store got 3 adults for me. By the way the name of the store is Seascape Studios. If you are ever in St. Louis, you gotta see this place. One has a redish snout, one is lighter in the body, and one is darker. Redhead, Blondie, and Brunette. Now I've named them, drat, the kiss of death… Sorry Jim. Pix were from the acclimation bucket, perhaps the best ones I'll get. Here's the reddish snout. There are reddish spots on the body as well. Here's the fish camouflaged in the sand of this tank. I did see them snicking at the pods in this tank, so I think they may be reasonably happy. Now lets hope I have a mixture of sexes among the three fish.

Are you sure they are all the same species? I have such a hard time with IDing the dragonface pipes (well, I have a hard time with all seahorses and pipefish...)

I have to ask the same question as Shannon; Blondie and Brunette look like the same species; Red looks like a different one. Unless there's sexual dichromatism and/or it's a matter of mood-influenced coloration.

I was thinking the same thing. Even snouts are different. Blondie and Brunette have upturned ones, whereas Red's is straight, and red. I love the belly pattern on Red. I'll look into it. Maybe Red is a member of haemato-something species...
